It ranges from inappropriate touching to penetration or intercourse.
It includes rape, attempted rape, child molestation, voyeurism, exhibitionism, incest, and sexual harassment.

Safety Tips

If you are attacked...

Try to escape, scream, and make noise to discourage your attacker from following you.
Talk, stall for time, and assess your options.
If the attacker has a weapon you may have no choice but to submit. Do what it takes to stay alive.
If you decide to fight back, be quick and determined. Target the eyes, throat, and knees.

If you've been assaulted...

Get away from the attacker and to a safe place as fast as you can.
Call a friend, family member, crisis center or hotline. Do not feel ashamed or guilty. These feelings are normal but it is not your fault!
Do not wash, comb, or clean any part of your body or your clothes.
Go to the nearest hospital emergency room as soon as possible. You need to be examined, treated for injuries, and screened for possible sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancy. Evidence that the attacker may have left behind will be collected in case you decide to prosecute.

Remember:

All forms of sexual assault are a crime.
No matter who attacks you, sexual assault is a crime.
Even if you were drinking or taking drugs at the time of the attack, sexual assault is a crime.
